koi fish medication
Like bamboo, Japanese Koi fish are very strong and quite hardy. But as a Koi pond owner, it's very important to visually inspect and observe the fish (energy level, coloration, weight, etc.) in order to ensure they remain at their optimum health. Changes in your koi may indicate undue stress or illness, and will help in diagnosing whether issues stem from the fish itself (requiring Koi medication), the koi pond water (requiring water treatment or water conditioner) or other environmental factors like chemical sprays.
- Koi jumping and breaking the water surface
- Koi rubbing or scratching the sides and/or bottom of the pond
- Lethargy in swimming habits or irregular behavior
- Lack-luster or discoloration of the Koi
- Redness on areas of the Koi's body
koi pond water conditions
Koi pond water conditions (such as pH, ammonia, nitrate, etc.) should be tested to ensure the overall health and well-being of your fish. The truth is that every pond owner may need to medicate their Koi (for parasites or other internal illness) and/or condition their pond water at some point.
